Japanese knotweed had taken over a large section of this Auburn, MA property. We brought in the mini excavator, pulled the root system section by section, loaded it into the dump trailer, and hauled it all off-site.
Project Overview
Japanese knotweed is one of the most aggressive invasive plants in New England. It spreads through its root system — rhizomes that can extend 10+ feet in every direction underground — which means cutting it back above ground only delays the problem. The only real solution is excavation: pulling the root mass entirely from the ground.
This Auburn, MA property had a section fully taken over by knotweed that had been spreading for years. The above-ground growth was dense, and the root system underneath was equally established. The customer had already tried to manage it manually and was done fighting it — they needed the root mass excavated and cleared from the work area.
We brought in the mini excavator and systematically worked through the area, pulling the knotweed root mass out of the ground section by section. All material was loaded directly into the dump trailer as we went. Knotweed root material can't be composted on-site — it needs to leave the property, which is exactly what we did.
The area was left fully excavated and cleared of knotweed root material, ready for grading, loam spreading, and replanting. The customer now has that section of their property back and can actually use it.
