The homeowner wanted to eliminate mowing on a sloped section of the yard and add some structure to the property. We built a full retaining wall from the ground up — excavated base, compacted gravel, drainage stone, and wall block set course by course.
Project Overview
The customer on this East Brookfield property wanted to get rid of mowing a sloped section of the yard and add some structure that would increase the property's value. We built a retaining wall from scratch — starting with excavating the base layer down to solid ground and establishing a clean, level footing.
From there we brought in compacted gravel for the base and backfilled the wall with over 2 feet of 3/4" stone for drainage, keeping water from building up behind the block and putting pressure on the wall over time.
The wall block was then set course by course, stepping back into the hillside as we went up. Each course was leveled and locked before moving to the next. When the final course was set, the slope was fully contained and the yard had a clean, defined edge in place of the old hill.
