Spencer Route 31 Stormwater Drainage Upgrade

We assisted E.M. Thibault Excavation with upgrading the existing drainage along Route 31 to a new 24" pipe — installed on a stone base, surrounded with stone, wrapped with fabric, and backfilled to handle significantly more stormwater volume.

Project Overview

What We Did & Why It Mattered

We recently had the opportunity to assist Eddie Thibault of E.M. Thibault Excavation with a drainage upgrade along Route 31 in Spencer. The existing drainage infrastructure was undersized and needed to be replaced to better handle the volume of stormwater moving through the area — especially during heavy rain events.

The existing drainage was upgraded to a new 24" pipe, providing significantly more capacity to move stormwater through the area. A larger-diameter pipe means dramatically more flow capacity, which directly reduces flooding risk along this stretch of Route 31.

The new pipe was installed on a proper stone base for long-term stability, then surrounded with stone on all sides for support and drainage. Before backfilling, the pipe and stone were wrapped with fabric to prevent soil migration and maintain drainage performance over time.

This upgrade will carry a much larger volume of water during heavy rainstorms and reduce flooding along Route 31. Big thanks to Eddie and E.M. Thibault Excavation for the opportunity to work alongside another local excavation company on this one.
